Hey there + Happy June! I didn’t intend on only posting twice during the month of May, but once I got into the month I decided that I need to take a break from blogging. Honestly, it felt good to step back. I’ve been at this stand-still of where I should take my blog and I think a lot of it comes to the word that I picked for this year: act. I’ve been busy acting on other things and I only have so much energy to give. Blogging used to feed my creative energy and now that’s being filled with other things. Here’s where my energy is being focused:
I’ve been going to the gym four times a week. I’m really proud of myself for sticking with a workout routine. The start of June marks five full months of keeping with it. I’m feeling stronger, I have better balance than I’ve ever had, and my flexibility is increasing. I’m still working on making friends at the gym.
I got my second tattoo! I’ve been wanting a second tattoo since I got my first of the recycling sign on the center of my back three years ago. One of the reasons that I put it off was I really wanted it done by a female artist. I have a couple friends who recently got tattooed at ihearttattoo in Clintonville and after looking over the three artists work, I realized that Haley’s style (her instagram) fit what I was looking for. I made the appointment a few months ago and got the tattoo this past Saturday. And don’t worry, my shoulder was only exposed for 5-10 minutes as we took these photos, I’m following the rules of aftercare. I really love it. I knew I wanted the sunflower to be the main piece and to have a few succulents and some lilacs around it, but I also wanted the artist to have more control. Tattoos and flowers have always been considered a form of art for me. I’m already brainstorming what to get done next with Haley and I’m leaning toward a thigh piece…
I’ve been spending time with Chase and figuring out how we’re going to do life together. Chase graduated from college in May, then went on a cross-country road trip with a friend. Once he got back, we officially started living together! We’re really excited about it, but it’s definitely be an adjustment.
I’ve been trying to remain active in the political climate. I’m still a part of a women’s group called Hear Jane Roar that focuses on telling the stories of women. It has been wonderful to get to know the women in the group and have them to depend upon when things get shitty. I try to control how much information I take in because following what is going on in America can be pretty exhausting.
I’ve been making and organizing wedding things. I’ve been making soaps for wedding favors, which has been such a therapeutic craft for me. I’ve also started making signs and other decorations. Deciding to DIY most wedding things has not been stressful for me, it’s been a stress-reliever. We have less than 100 days until we get married!
With all of that said, I’m not sure if I want to give up blogging, but I want to give up putting pressure on myself to blog. I’m not getting paid to blog, it’s always been something to me as a fun side project and a way to be creative. I’m really happy where my life is right now and I enjoy the things that I am devoting my time to. I plan to share my June goals next week, so stay tuned for that.
