Favorite Beauty Products

I’ve wanted to include beauty posts on the blog for a while and I thought a great place to start would be sharing my favorite products! I’ve been using most of these products for a while now. If you didn’t know, I have worked at a salon for over 6 years and that spurred my interest in make-up, skincare, and haircare. I really enjoy working at  the salon and I love the education I have received from the stylists over the years. I never thought I would say this, but I have considered going to Beauty School later in life because I really enjoy the environment and learning about products. Anyway, here are some of my go-to products:

St. Ives Skin Renewing Collagen Elastin Body Lotion | I’ve been using St. Ives body lotion for the past few years and this is definitely my favorite type. It feels really soothing on and the scent is mild. I occasionally mix an essential oil in with the lotion to make it more soothing and have a stronger scent, but it works fine by itself. I also use this product it on my face because it is super moisturizing and gentle enough to not cause my pores to be clogged up. I get mine at CVS or Kroger when I purchase my other groceries.

Aveda Tourmaline Charged Exfoliating Cleanser | This is a product we carry at my salon. Aveda recently reformulated this product and changed the name to Botanical Kinetics Exfoliating Creme Cleanser. I haven’t tried it since the rebrand, but when we tested the consistency at the salon, it felt the same. This product always makes me skin feel refreshed after washing. I love that it doesn’t have the harmful mircobeads that are bad for the environment, but instead uses natural jojoba beads. This cleanser is definitely my favorite product by Aveda. I try to use it once in the day and I feel like it’s best for the end of the day because it really gets everything off my skin.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation in Ivory | This product is the newest-to-me product on the list. I got it at Ulta Beauty last month after reading about how amazing this foundation was on the blogosphere. I was hesitant to purchase it because of the cost – much more than I would usually spend on a foundation – but it was worth it. The coverage is amazing, it feels smooth on the skin, and a little goes a long way (which makes me feel much better about the price-point). This product is a vegan, hypoallergenic, and has a SPF 15.  I will definitely be trying more Tarte products in the future!

Neuma ReNeu Shampoo | We also carry Neuma at the salon. This was the first Neuma product we tested as a salon a few years ago and it got me hooked to their brand. This shampoo is amazing. I tend to alternate shampoos, but this one is always in the mix. It is super cleansing, but is good for colored hair. The shampoo smells like chocolate thin mints – yum! It is great for all hair types, but especially for those who need a deeper cleansing at times, yet this product is gentle enough that it could also be used on the whole body. I’ve used it on my body to help the itch of mosquito bites.

Neuma NeuStyling Texturizer | I’ve gotten lazy with styling my hair during the week, but this is my go-to styling product for short hair. Like the name says, it adds texture to hair. I love how it creates volume without weighing the hair down. The smell is nice, but not too overwhelming.

Neuma NeuStyling Smoothing Creme | I use this hair product everyday after I towel dry my hair and before I blow-dry it. It makes my hair feel smoother, softer, and easier to use with a round-brush while I blow-dry. The smell is similar to the texturizer (most of the Neuma styling products smell the same). Also, I should mention the Neuma is a sustainable company and the products are organic, plus the products are more concentrated, so you don’t need a lot of the product.

ColorProof TextureCharge Color Protect Texture & Finishing Spray | We also carry ColorProof at the salon. Like I said above, I’ve gotten lazy at doing my hair during the week, but this is my go-to hairspray. I realized when shooting the photos that my bottle is currently empty, so it’s time to get a new one. This a newer product from ColorProof, but it’s one of our favorites as a salon. It creates incredible volume and I really love the fruity smell of the ColorProof line. This product is similar to the dry shampoo that they have – DrySpell Color Protect Dry Shampoo.

SuperRich Moisture Shampoo | This is the other shampoo that I have in constant rotation and I also need to get another bottle of this one! I use this on days when I feel like I need more moisture in my hair. Like the Neuma products, most of the ColorProof products are more concentrated so a little goes a long way.

PowerFix Texture Powder | This is another must-have for short hair if you want volume! It’s a little tricky to use if you are not used to using a powder for styling (it only goes on dry hair at the roots and you scrunch it into the roots to create volume). I don’t use this product a ton because it takes me a while to get it right. I normally use the powder once my hair is dry and then add the Neuma NeuStyling Texturizer to amp it up even more! As the name states, all of these products are great for colored hair.

Please let me know if you want to know more about any of the products or have any questions! I’ll do my best to explain or I’ll reach out to a stylist at the salon if it’s one of the products we carry. I hope to add more beauty-related posts to the blog in the future!  What’s your favorite beauty product? Have a great Wednesday!

  1. I’ve heard sooooo many people rave about that foundation – I might just have to give it a go! The only “high end” foundation I’ve used is the It Cosmetics CC cream and while I really love it, it seems silly to me to spend so much money on something that won’t last all day. So I probably won’t rebuy it, sadly!
