To start off my January recap I need to address the elephant in the room: the current U.S. political climate + the new administration. I have to admit that it has definitely weighed me down some. I’ve been doing my best to be the best activist I can be by having my voice heard and being kind to combat the hate. Whenever I’m feeling down about a political action I act – I make a call or send an email to a representative or donate to a good cause or engage with others about what’s going on. It really does help lift my spirits and I think the silver-lining in all this bullshit is that people are actually doing things; whether that be attending protests, donating money, engaging in powerful dialogues, or calling their representatives. Personally, I’ve felt like I’ve had an amazing start to the year. I am definitely excited for what this year has in store for me at a personal level. Without further ado, here’s some of my highlights from January:
My work made a big announcement. // Chase + I celebrated 1 year of engagement. // I attended a class to learn about essential oils with doTerra. I’m hoping to get into essentials oils this year! // Chase started his last semester of college – which means only a few more months of distance! // I traveled to Washington D.C. for the Women’s March on Washington. Read about my experience here. I was also pictured in a piece the NY Times did on the presidential inauguration during the March on Washington. // The Hear Jane Roar website was launched + we had our first Jane’s Mic Night! I shared my personal story of the influence of two special female mentors + tales of working at a salon. // I designed our Save-The-Dates! // I started working out at Brickhouse Cardio Club + went to 14 classes in January. I’ve been taking classes in cycling, PiYo (fast pilates + yoga), and Hip Hop. // I announced my word for 2017 + a friend made me this necklace to go along with it. // I contacted my senator at least 6 times about issues that were weighing on me (I started keep track in my planner of who I contacted and what about). // I went to the Columbus Metropolitan Library for the first time since they renovated the building.
