Now that we are a week into 2017, let’s talk about my word for the year. Before hearing my word for 2017, I do want to touch on my word for 2016. Last year, the first time I intentionally picked a word to fuel my year, I picked the word “create.” I wrote a post about it here. I feel like I succeeded in living out create in some ways, but not in others. I wasn’t as crafty as I hoped I would be, but I felt like I really started to create a future for myself and I had fun creating new experiences throughout the year.
The word I picked for 2017 is…act. Merriam-Webster defines “act” as: the doing of a thing. That definition sounds really vague. But what I mean when I say act is:
Actually DO THE THING.
Get shit done.
Don’t just talk about doing it, actually DO IT!
One of the big reasons I picked “act” was the incoming U.S. Administration. I mentioned this before on here, but the results of the U.S. Presidential Election were really hard for me to stomach. And it continued to get worse when appointments were decided by President-Elect Trump. We need more people doing the good things that they say that are going to do. I don’t want to just talk about how I am upset on the blog or on social media, I want to be calling my government officials and advocating in Columbus. I’m SO excited to get outside my comfort zone this year and fight for my rights as a woman and others who are marginalized. I think it’s going to feel really real when I go to the Women’s March in D.C. in a couple weeks. Besides acting out for justice, I also hope that this year can be focused on:
Acting strong by working my body at the gym.
Acting bold when making new friends.
Acting wise in new professional environments.
Acting organized throughout this year’s plan.
Acting brave in the name of what is right.
I plan on getting another necklace made with my word for the year as a wearable reminder. My friend Emma is going to make it for me and I’m excited to work on that together! I’m linking-up with Nicole at Writes Like A Girl to share my word with the other bloggers in this post. Did you pick a word for the year?
Have a great start to your week!
