Defining Life Project

Introduction to Defining Life Project

Earlier this week I said that I would have some exciting news about a new series of posts I wanted to start. This post series is a lot different from what I have been posting since I started the blog, but I think it will expand the type of people who will want to read my posts. Well, read on for the exciting news! The summer after I turned sixteen, I had an idea for a project that I thought could eventually become a book (I never really thought of sharing them on a blog until now). I had just crossed over a rough patch in my life & things were starting to look better. One night I was laying in bed & I asked myself “what exactly is life?”. I did not really think of an answer at that exact moment, but I thought about how everyone thinks of it differently. I decided at that moment to get a collection of answers to the questions “what is life?” & share my thoughts on the answers with an explanation of why exactly I was on this strange quest to find the answers. I decided to make it a little personal with each answer by pairing the definition with the person’s initials.  I worked on the project a lot within the first months of starting it by asking my friends, posting about it on Facebook, & asking people at social events. I was that girl who cared around a purple journal with stickers & a pen to ask people their definitions. I would give most people the small back-story of why I was doing this because it is kind of strange when someone you do not know asks you this question that is so little, but can mean so much to someone. The momentum of asking people has kind of died down within the past year & a half because my own life has been busy. Although, last summer I spent some time typing up the definitions & I have 149 definitions of life saved on a document. I would like to share these definitions on this blog. I was going through clothes with my friend Abby last week & one of the shirts I was getting rid of was a shirt I made to promote this project. Abby asked me what happened to the project. I told her how it is still ongoing, but kind of on the back-burner because I haven’t been asking people (or people have not responded to the question yet). Which is when I decided to share it here! I will post a few definitions a week every Thursday. I will also be taking some more submissions to keep the project active, so send me an email at thevintageurbaniteblog[at]gmail[dot]com. if you are interested in sharing your answer.

Again, I am really excited to launch this & I hope people enjoys it! Stay tuned to discover the first five definitions of life next Thursday 🙂

  1. Reblogged this on vintagethrifter51.com and commented:
Life is a bowl of granola…full of nuts and flakes but sweet and savoury things too. You get a mixture of it in every spoonful. Just don’t eat it too fast or you will finish too quick.
